Last weekend I attended the forum one Race, Policing and Justice hosted by Shorter Community AME Church and moderated by Brother Jeff Fard. The local church's commitment to furthering justice in our community is truly encouraging. The event was the continuation of conversation that began in the wake of Ferguson and is ever so relevant in light of Jessie Hernandez' killing.
I found it encouraging to hear various youth address our city and state leaders, Police Chief White, State Reps. Fields and Slazar and Sen. Johnston.

My challenge walking away centered around two things. 1.) How do I prepare my students to engage in effective civil dialogue about their communities? 2.) What role do I play in the community trust building between Denver PD and our neighborhoods (particularly youth) of color?
